British technology company what3words has divided the world into 3 by 3 meter squares and given each box a unique combination of three words: what3words address. With ‘always-on’ technology, which does not require a mobile data connection, drivers can navigate to a specific location in just three words.
The what3words software is part of the latest SOTA upgrade offered to customers this year and follows a previous update that gave more than 200,000 existing Jaguar and Land Rover owners access to Amazon Alexa. In total, Jaguar Land Rover has completed more than 1.3 million vehicle-grade updates and more than three million engine management system updates as part of its always-on, always-connected capabilities.
After the update, the system will allow customers to enter what3words addresses directly into the navigation bar of the Pivi Pro infotainment system. This integration is realized by HERE Technologies, which has been Jaguar Land Rover’s navigation partner for 25 years. HERE navigation solutions include accurate turn-by-turn route guidance, convenient real-time traffic information and comprehensive on- and off-street parking locations for a personalized and intuitive experience on every journey.
Jaguar Land Rover and what3words have been working together since 2018, when they created a what3words address to help improve healthcare administration on the remote Scottish island of Mull.
