Presentation and price: M3 Touring starts under 100,000 euros
Appearance and dimensions: M3 Touring significantly longer
Visually, the M3 Touring is, as expected, identical to a sedan down to the B-pillar. In plain language: Big M kidney, vent friendly apron, widened wheel arch. As far as everything is known. From pillar B, the G81 then became a station wagon. The roof is black as standard, but can also be painted in a body color if desired.
Due to the modified apron, the Touring M3 is about nine centimeters longer than the regular Touring Series 3. The standard rim size is 19 inches on the front axle and 20 inches on the rear axle.
Torque struts increase rigidity at the touring rear. New spring rates and dampers counter drone frequencies.
Dimensions at a glance:
• Long: 4794 nn (+85 mm compared to 3er Tour)
• Large: 1903 mm (+76 mm compared to 3er Tour)
• Tall: 1436 mm
• Wheelbase: 2857 mm
• rotate circle: 12.2 m
• luggage volume: 500 – 1510 Liter
Interior: Curved display and OS 8 as standard
It also means there will be more touch and speech to give commands on the M3 in the future. In addition, the sportiest 3 Series gets the new M special look, which with its coloring (blue and red) matches the skin tone M GmbH recording, tape. The heads-up display also features new graphics. The rest is expected.
Loading volume up to 1510 liters
Contemporary dual-screen cockpit on the M3 Touring. The graphics are colorful and angular – the timeless functional scale has been replaced by wild graphics. Ergonomics remains excellent.
At 500 to 1510 liters, the M3 Touring is in no way inferior to the Touring Series 3 in terms of loading volume – and with standard 40/20/40 folding rear seats, it’s as varied as a standard Series 3 estate.
Drive and technology: M3 Touring exclusively as a competition
The only powertrain option for the M3 Touring is the 510 PS a strong competitive variant of the S58 biturbo in-line six-cylinder – standing in combination with the M xDrive all-wheel-heavy rear-drive system and the famous eight-speed automatic transmission. The maximum torque is 650 Nm.
Driving performance is appropriate for the M3: from 0 to 100 tracks on the M3 Touring 3.6 seconds at full acceleration. Sprinting from a standing position to 200 km/h takes 12.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h – if the M Drivers Package is installed, the electronics only slow down to 280 km/h.
Technical data at a glance:
• performance: 375 kW (510 HP)
• Max Torque: 650 Nm
• Drive: four-wheel vehicle
• Transmission: Eight speed automatic
• Acceleration 0-100km/h: 3.6 seconds
• Acceleration 0-200km/h: 12.9 seconds
• Top speed: 250 km/h (280 km/h mit M Driver Package)
• Combined consumption by WLTP: 10.4 – 10.1l/100km
Conclusion: The technical differences with the normal M3 are marginal. No problem! The M3 Tour was a heartfelt affair that many M fans had hoped for for decades. It’s good that M GmbH dared to break its own taboo. Now only the M3 Touring manual is gone!
