Verhoeven drives international transport with the Volvo FH I-Save

Verhoeven from Uden drives a Volvo FH I-Save for international transportation. “This saves the company about 4.5 to 5% on fuel consumption. Not only is it cost-effective, but also a good step towards a more sustainable society with less CO2 emissions,” said Volvo.

Verhoeven now owns 39 Volvo FHs with I-Save drives. Seventeen of these trucks are new FH models and have been in service since June last year. This year, Verhoeven again added twenty-three new Volvo FHs with 500 hp I-Save to its fleet, the first three of which have now been delivered. Most of the trucks are used for high quality transportation. In addition, Verhoeven specializes in urgent deliveries with its Express service.

Verhoeven specializes in high quality transportation. The company has nearly 100 years of experience in logistics, with a particular focus on speed, security, reliability and cost efficiency. The catchment area covers the entire central axis of East-West Europe. Every day about 200 trucks are on the road to Verhoeven.

‘floating pregnancy’

“As an international transportation company, our vehicles, along with our people, are the driving force of our organization. We promise our customers to deliver products safely, economically and quickly. Our trucks are very important in this regard. They must be reliable and of course safe. The Volvo FH combines these features. What’s more, working with the Volvo Truck dealer BAS Truck Center has been a lot of fun since the 1980s when we started with the first Volvos”, said Dries Hendrix, Fleet Engineer at Verhoeven.

He continues: “Besides being reliable and safe, we see that the Volvo FH I-Save is also very economical. Compared to the previous version of the Volvo FH, we saw a 4.5 to 5% increase in consumption. Our trucks travel 100,000 to 190,000 km every year. The fuel cost savings per vehicle are substantial.” By consuming less fuel, Verhoeven also emits less CO2. “We are seeing more and more clients requesting this. We are certainly aware of that. A number of older trucks are now being replaced by the new Volvo FH I-Save. In this way we contribute to a more sustainable society”, explains Dries Hendrix.

Economical driving

Verhoeven drivers are encouraged to drive economically. “For example, they get a bonus if they drive economically; it means: glide and drive in anticipation. For this, the BAS Truck Center provides a monthly driving style report, with which we can train and guide drivers. BAS also provides an ‘Economic Driving’ training course for our drivers, which counts directly into the 35-hour refresher course,” said Dries Hendrix.

Verhoeven drivers are far and away from home. Therefore, all trucks have a Globetrotter XL cab and are equipped with extra comfort upgrade options and a Driver Comfort package. “We want to make it as comfortable as possible for our drivers. After all, they are the driving force of our organization and the face of our customers. That’s why we always opt for comfort-enhancing options such as the I-ParkCool integrated parking cooler and luxurious air-cooled passenger seats. In addition, safety is very important to protect our drivers and the products to be transported. Therefore, the Volvo FH is equipped with all kinds of safety systems such as Lane Change Support, Driver Alert Support, static corner lighting and rain sensors”.

Training

To inform drivers of all the novelties and options in Volvo trucks, the BAS Truck Center provides theoretical training courses on ‘driver support and safety systems’. “And I have to be honest, it helps. Like many transporters, of course we also face a shortage of drivers, but we are known as a company that takes good care of its people and it pays off,” continued Hendrix.

Verhoeven drivers are also satisfied with the Volvo FH. “Drivers are very positive about driving characteristics and ease of use. And while trucks are driven very economically, they don’t compromise on engine power or driving performance. That’s appreciated. In addition, the cabin of the new Volvo FH is spacious and offers many storage and comfort options. It would be nice if you are often away from home and for a long time,” concluded Hendrix.
