The study model is nearly five meters long and has a sleek design. The sloping roof that looks like a coupé ensures a very low drag coefficient of 0.23. Volkswagen’s modular MEB electric platform also allows for short overhangs, a long wheelbase and a very spacious interior. Identity. The AERO has a lithium-ion battery with a net energy content of 77 kWh. Thanks to its efficient powertrain and good aerodynamics, the ID. The AERO has a theoretical range of up to 620 kilometers (WLTP).
With almost serial-ready ID. AERO is accelerating Volkswagen’s electric attack in China as part of its ACCELERATE strategy. After ID.3, ID.4 and ID.6, serial version ID. AERO is already the fourth electric model series in China. The model is expected to be available there in the second half of 2023. Volkswagen wants to be a leading supplier of sustainable vehicles in China. By 2030, at least every second car sold in China will have to be electric. As part of the Way to ZERO electrification offensive, the serial version of ID. AERO will be offered worldwide in the future. Next to China comes the new top model from ID. family is also on the market in Europe and North America.
ID design. AERO presents the ID design language. family for the first time to a sedan in the upper mid-range segment. From compact crossovers to SUVs and from minibuses to spacious limousines, the MEB can be used in all segments. MEB also allows Volkswagen to use the ID. family with a midsize sedan. In addition, MEB takes full advantage of the possibilities of e-mobility, allowing for large coverage, maximum digital network possibilities, and over-the-air renewal options.
Production version of ID. AERO for Europe is expected to start a production line in Emden in 2023. With the mass production of electric vehicles, Emden will make an important contribution to the electrification of various models and the reduction of CO2 emissions from new cars.
