The Beginning of My Journey with Duke
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a deep love and passion for horses. I would watch horse movies, read books about horses, and daydream about one day having my own horse. Finally, when I turned 16, my parents surprised me with the best gift I could ever ask for – a beautiful stallion named Duke.
My First Ride with Duke
Excited to take Duke out for a ride, I saddled him up and hopped on his back. At first, everything seemed to be going well. Duke was obedient and listened to my commands. However, it wasn’t long before I realized that I couldn’t keep up with him.
Duke’s Speed and Energy
From the moment Duke started to gallop, I knew I was in trouble. His speed and energy were beyond anything I had experienced before. I tried to slow him down, but he seemed to be enjoying himself too much. It wasn’t long before I was hanging on for dear life.
My Fear and Frustration
As we continued to ride, my fear and frustration grew. I couldn’t control Duke, and I wasn’t sure what to do. I started to doubt myself and wondered if I was really cut out to be a horse owner. I wanted to give up, but I knew I couldn’t.
Feeling defeated, I decided to seek help from a professional horse trainer. After all, I didn’t want to give up on Duke just because I couldn’t keep up with him. The trainer was patient and kind, and he taught me techniques to help me control Duke’s speed and energy.
The Importance of Patience and Consistency
Through working with the trainer, I learned the importance of patience and consistency. I realized that Duke wasn’t trying to be difficult – he just had a lot of energy and needed to be trained properly. With time and practice, I started to feel more confident and in control.
My Journey Continues
Now, years later, Duke and I have come a long way. We still have our challenges, but I know that with patience and consistency, we can overcome anything. I’m grateful for Duke and the lessons he’s taught me. He’s more than just a horse – he’s a friend and a companion.
